Location: Aarhus Type: Postdoctoral Posted: March 16, 2011 Expires: April 01, 2011 We search for a candidate to participate in research on the biomineralized holdfast of the anomiids that are bivalves that attach through a mineralized byssal plug. The goal is to understand the structure and mechanics of the construct. Techniques will include X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, computer tomography, nanoindentation and several others. A candidate with experience in either of the above mentioned techniques or in studies of biomineralization will be preferred. The selected candidate will be a part of a growing group studying biological and bioinspired materials. The project is part of a HFSP-funded collaboration between Henrik Birkedal (Aarhus University) and J. Herbert Waite (University of California, Santa Barbara). The successful candidate will work in Aarhus.
The position is to be filled as soon as possible. The successful candidate will be hired for one year with a possibility for a further one year extension.
