FedEx Express, a subsidiary of US-based FedEx Corp, said that it has expanded its operations facility at Shanghai Pudong International Airport to increase handling capacity for international shipments and meet growing customer demand.
Located in the west part of the airport, the new facility has an office and warehouse area of 17,375 square meters. There is also a substantial increase in sorting capacity - the expanded facility can sort up to 9,000 packages per hour.
Wilson Chung, vice-president for international express of FedEx Express China, said that international trade will continue to be critical to the success of Shanghai's economy and will enhance the city's competitiveness in the country.
The new facility has a total of 32 trucking docks and 17 conveyor belts for loading and unloading individual packages. As one of the busiest FedEx gateway operations in China, it has 68 flights in and out of Shanghai each week.
