Postdoc positions : Martinsried by Munich Employer:Max Planck Institue of BiochemistryWebsite:http://www.biochem.mpg.deLocation:Martinsried by MunichType:PostdoctoralPosted:November 19, 2010Expires:January 18, 2011The Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry is one of the leading research institutes within the fields of biochemistry, cell- and structural biology, and biomedicine. With its ten scientific departments, twelve junior research groups, and a staff of around 800 people, the institute is one of the largest institutes within the Max Planck Society. Two postdoc positions funded by an ERC-Starting Grant (‘DiseNtAngle’) are available initially for two years in the research group “Chromosome Organization and Dynamics” (Dr. Stephan Gruber).
Outstanding and enthusiastic researchers will have an opportunity to dissect the roles and mechanis of the bacterial condensin complex and work on fundamental aspects of chromosome segregation in bacteria. The group already uses a variety of techniques such as protein biochemistry (including crystallography), genetics and live cell imaging, and aims to establish high-throughput technologies based on next-generation sequencing for the study of chromosome organization. Candidates are expected to be driven by a strong interest in chromosome biology and bacterial cell biology. Extensive experience in optical microscopy and training in molecular biology and microbiology are highly desirable. Additional skills in any of the following areas will be an advantage: next-generation sequencing, bioinformatics, DNA methylation mapping. Proficiency in spoken and written English is required. Depending on qualifications remuneration of up to group 13 TVöD (public service payment tariff scale) is possible. The Max Planck Society is committed to employing more disabled individuals and especially encourages them to apply. The Max Planck Society seeks to increase the number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply. For more information please see:
