Fellowship Description: Postdoctoral Position in High-Resolution Microscopy and Image ysis- Salary according TV-L -starting in the spring of 2011, for a period of two to three years. The research of the prospective candidate will focus on the characterization of synaptic structure by ysis of high-resolution microscopy data. The group uses several advanced microscopy techniques, including stimulated emission depletion (STED) microscopy and electron microscopy photo-oxidation, to study the localization of different markers in the synaptic space (see for example Willig et al., Nature, 2006; Westphal et al., Science, 2008). The prospective candidate will develop data ysis methods to extract information from databases of high-resolution images, which have been largely built by other members of the laboratory. A structural model of the synapse will be generated and the candidate will design experiments to test and improve it, by combining informatics, in silico modelling and imaging. Ambitious candidates will also be helped to develop their own ideas and research, within the framework of the group’s field of research.
