Two opening research assistant positions in Bennetzen’s Research Group at KIB
Professor Jeffrey Bennetzen, US National Academy of Sciences, is one of the "1000 Foreign Talents in China" at the Kunming Institute of Botany (KIB), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). His research group at KIB is based in the germpla and genomics research center, including collaboration with Prof. Lizhi Gao. Major research interests are evolutionary, comparative, and functional genomics of grasses and Camellia. Some research results of the group have been published in journals such as Nature, Science, Nature Genetics, Nature Biotechnology, Plant Cell, and PNAS. There are two open vacancies in the Bennetzen group for research assistants who have received Ph.D degrees. Interested individuals are invited to apply. Successful postdoctoral applicants will have the opportunity to conduct some of their research in the US at the University of Georgia.
1. Eligibility
Two Research Assistant Positions in bioinformatics:
1) Ph.D., very good evolutionary biology and bio-informatics knowledge, especially with experience in genome assembly, annotation, etc.
2) good publication record
3) good team player and the ability to work independently. Statistical skills would be very useful.
4) good English speaking, writing and reading abilities
2. Salaries and benefits
Salaries and benefits in accordance with the relevant regulations of KIB, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
3. How to apply
3.1. Documents required
1) Detailed CV (including academic qualifications, work experiences, mailing address, postal code, telephone number and E-mail)
2) A list of published papers and a scanned copy of the front page of each paper
3) Two recommendation letters from academic referees
4) filling in other related forms required by KIB
5) copies of certificates for degree, award or working experiences
3.2. Qualification check
The recruitment team will check the applicant’s qualifications according to the eligibility required. An appropriate applicant will be notified of the time and place for an interview by telephone or e-mail.
3.3. Interview
Recruitment team will arrange an interview for the applicant to describe his/her working background, ideas and plans for the job and how to accomplish it using a 10 minute power point presentation followed by answering questions from experts for another 10 minutes. Questions will be about the applicant’s qualifications, goals and plans to achieve those goals.
The recruitment group will take a secret ballot based on the applicant’s answers to the questions, qualifications, performance of the previous work, coordination skills, etc. Only an applicant who receives two-thirds positive votes will become a successful candidate. The candidates will be hired after one week of publicity if there is no objection received.
