On the cover: In competitive situations, thwarting your compe's ability to predict your actions is essential. This can be done either by counterpredicting the compe's prediction or by behaving in a random, unpredictable manner. Using behavioral ysis and circuit perturbation in rats, Tervo et al. (pp. 21–32) show that these two modes of action selection indeed exist and uncover how the brain switches between them. Cover art by Katie Ris-Vicari.
