The neural plasticity lab in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Louisville has a position for a post doctoral fellow to work on studies of sensorimotor plasticity. The goal of the lab is to understand mechanis and significance and implications of brain and spinal plasticity after central nervous system injury. Ongoing studies include longitudinal studies of plasticity after spinal cord injury, modulation of use-dependent plasticity, and investigation of genetic aspects of motor plasticity. A variety of multimodal approaches are available including functional magnetic resonance imaging, electroencephalography, transcranial magnetic and direct current stimulation and spinal transcranial direct current stimulation.

Desired skills

Candidates should have a PhD in neurophysiology or neuroscience or related field or an MD with a strong background in neurology and clinical neurophysiology. A strong background and experience in neurophysiological techniques such as transcranial magnetic stimulation and EEG is preferred but not mandatory. Applicants should be able to work independently and should have strong oral and written communication skills and be able to function well within a team. Applicants are expected to have hunger and eagerness to create knowledge and be quite productive in this area of investigation. The lab is located in the Frazier rehabilitation institute and is part of a multidisciplinary leading center of animal and human spinal cord injury research. The center has one of the largest spinal cord injury research and locomotor rehabilitation research programs in the US. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a research career in clinical neuroplasticity and neurophysiology and restorative and rehabilitative neurosurgery and neuroscience.
