Karolinska Institutet invites applications for a
Research Associate/Assistant Professor in epidemiology The Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) is a department at Karolinska Institutet and an interdisciplinary research institution within the broad field of environmental medicine. IMM conducts cutting edge research within the areas of environmental and occupational medicine, epidemiology, physiology, and toxicology. IMM also serves as a scientific advisor to public authorities within the area of environmental medicine and IMM scientists participate in national and international expert groups that conduct risk assesents or develop guidelines.
IMM has an opening for a Research Associate/Assistant Professor (forskarassistent) in epidemiology. The task is to conduct epidemiologic research in collaboration with the scientists within one of IMMs epidemiology units. Collaboration across units and disciplines is encouraged.
Qualifications To qualify, the applicant must hold a doctoral degree or equivalent in epidemiology or similar relevant area and have at least two years of research experience on the postdoc level.
Applicants who have completed their degree no more than five years before the last date for applications should be given priority. Candidates who have completed their degree earlier than this should receive equal priority if special grounds exist. Special grounds include leave of absence because of sickness, service in the total defense, positions of trust in trade union organizations and student organizations, parental leave and other similar circumstances. A total of two years can be added for the above reasons on presentation of written testimony.
A person who has been employed as an Research Associate/Assistant Professor for more than a total of three years may not be given other employment as Postdoctoral Research Fellow within the same or a similar subject area at the same or any other institution of higher education.
The term of employment as Research Associate/Assistant Professor at KI is fixed at KI to two + two years, subject to evaluation after the first two years.
Assesent grounds In connection with the appointment of Research Associate/Assistant Professor, we will accord special weight to academic skills, particularly demonstrated excellence in research.
Post doc studies at an international well renowned institution are considered an advantage. Excellence in English is required. Experience from multidisciplinary research collaboration and project management is meritorious.
Successful candidates are expected to have strong background in epidemiologic theory and methods and considerableas experience from ysis of epidemiologic data within in one of IMMs research areas.
