关于美国Instructor职位

　　方先生，你好！

　　我是贵站忠实读者，也是从心里支持佩服你学术打假的一个年轻人。我去年
在Umass Medical School做完3年postdoc，目前在哈佛医学院任Instructor，同
时作为哈佛医学院下属医院Brigham and Women’s Hospital的Neurology
Department的科学家。最近贵站有篇文章，关于“2015年青千公示：Instructor
翻译成了讲师“的问题

因为我个人也是讲师，所以想说两句。我觉得这个翻译没有浮夸之嫌。别国我不
知道，但是中美两国在学术编制上有所不同，例如中国不设Assistant
Professor一职。美国的Instructor不是像这位作者（天方夜谭）所说一样，
“这个Instructor只是个教学生实验的临时职位，可由博后****************任，与讲师有根本
的差别。” 我查了一下，在网页上，对美国Instructor有一段描述：

　　"Lecturers" and "Instructors" in the US can work full-time or
part-time and may be referred to as "professor" by their classes. At
some institutions, they teach as their primary purpose, but they can
also serve on academic committees. Since these positions are usually
non-tenure track, they often do not involve a research or publishing
requirement, although many of these professors do publish, research,
and consult. Alternatively, at US medical colleges, the title
"Instructor" can be given to someone who is full-time faculty and who
may conduct research with no teaching obligation. These appointments
are non-tenure track, as well.

　　最后一句话说得很清楚。

　　同时，我也在HMS的网站上找到下面这个文档，关于Instructor资历的一些

　　从我个人的经验来说，HMS的Instructor不是任何postdoctoral都可以随便
当上了，也是要提出申请，由PI或者实验室主任提出推荐，然后个人提交
Harvard指定格式的CV，详述自己在Teaching,research, service三个方面的贡
献，提交之后由学院专门的委员会评议，通过之后由dean签字才能生效的。我也
是等了差不多3个月才拿到通知的。在我理解看来，这个位置是介于
postdoctoral和assitant professor之间的一个职位，也算是faculty（起*****在
HMS是这样的）。

　　说这些不是想说这个职位多了不起，只是想还原一下真相：它没什么，但是
也不是想这个作者说得那样是个“临时职位，可由博后****************任”。我认为翻译成讲
