Employer: Institut Pasteur, Paris, France Website: http://www.pasteur.fr Location: 25-28 rue du Dr Roux, 75015 Paris Type: Postdoctoral Posted: January 13, 2011 Expires: March 14, 2011 Requisition number: Inter-individual variability in tuberculosis job description Inter-individual variability in the molecular response to infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis A postdoctoral fellow position is available in the Mycobacterial Genetics Unit, headed by Pr Brigitte Gicquel, at the Institut Pasteur in Paris to expand a new research project on the study of the human population variability to infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. A striking feature of tuberculosis is that only 10% of individuals infected with M. tuberculosis develop active disease. Indeed, it is estimated that over one third of the world’s population is infected with M. tuberculosis (i.e. carries a latent infection), but approximately 90% of infected individuals do not develop tuberculosis (TB). The applicant will develop a project to unravel the inter-individual variability in the molecular response to infection with M. tuberculosis. Required knowledge and skills include cellular and molecular biology, immunology, RNA, protein ysis and cell culture. Experience in mouse models and/or in the TB field is a plus, but can be acquired on the job, if necessary. Applicants who do not meet these requirements will not be considered at any level of the review process. The applicant will join one of the top places for research in Europe. In this environment, the applicant will have access to state-of-the-art facilities and equipment for conducting his/her research project, including cat.3 lab and animal facility, and imaging, genomic and proteomic platforms.
