Guangdong will accelerate the work schedule of major projects in transport infrastructure, which includes the Guangzhou-Zhuhai Intercity Railway, Xiamen–Shenzhen Railway and Guangzhou Metro, announced Guangdong officials on May 23.
Guangzhou-Zhuhai Intercity RailwayThe Guangzhou-Zhuhai Intercity Railway will open for operation at the end of 2012, according to Guangdong transportation officials.
The Guangzhou-Zhuhai Intercity Railway, the first intercity railway line in Guangdong Province, will reduce travel time between the two cities to 45 minutes. There are a total of 22 railway stations along the line, but four of them are still under construction, including Zhuhai, Qianshan, Tangjiawan and Mingzhu.
The construction of the Zhuhai Station will be completed and put into operation at the end of October 2012. However, the Guangdong Pearl River Delta Intercity Rail Company said that the opening time of all lines will be decided by The Ministry of Railways.
Xiamen–Shenzhen RailwayThe Xiamen–Shenzhen Railway, which is named after its two terminal cities Xiamen in Fujian Province and Shenzhen, will begin construction between Shenzhen and Huizhou this year. An engineering-related charge estimated that the Xiamen–Shenzhen Railway line will run all through until the end of next year.
The Xiamen–Shenzhen Railway is designed for trains running at top speeds of 250 kilometers per hour, and is expected to shorten travel between Xiamen and Shenzhen from 11 hours to three hours.
Guangzhou MetroThe Guangzhou Metro will add four new lines in 2012. Currently, Line 7, Northward Extension of Line 8, Line 14, Line 21 and Line of Knowledge City are in preparation and construction will begin after permission from the National Development and Reform Commission. The Guangzhou Metro has eight lines in operation with 236 kilometers of tracks and an average passenger capacity of 3,240,000 passenger trips per day.
